TheScore is one of the most trusted names in Canada for all things sports — broadcasts, highlights, news, commentary, and now, betting. That’s right, theScore Bet is the media company’s semi-new hot product. We say semi-new because it’s changed greatly since launching in 2019.

First of all, theScore was one of the first sportsbooks to launch in the United States when the federal ban on sports betting was overturned in 2018. By 2019, theScore Bet was live and the media company used its own tech stack to build the platform — rather than partner with, say, Kambi. The platform went live in several states — Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, and New Jersey — early on, but failed to gain market share.

The reason for the struggles? Well, theScore is well known in Canada, but hardly recognized among Americans who prefer the ESPN or Fox Sports of the world. Penn Entertainment knew this when it bought out the entire theScore media empire in 2021 for $2 billion. The company quickly decided to get theScore out of the U.S. market and instead go all in on Canada.

This is where things stand today. TheScore is trying to carve out its name in Canada’s own booming sports betting marketplace. So how does it fare? This is what we’re attempting to answer with this theScore Bet review.

States Where TheScore Bet Offers Legal Betting?

April 4, 2022 — the day sports betting became fully legal in the province of Ontario, Canada. This is major because Ontario has a population of around 14 million, in large part due to the city of Toronto. It’s not only the most populous province in Canada, but it represents close to 40 percent of the country’s total population. And due to Toronto, it’s also the most lucrative market at all.

We say this because theScore Bet operates in Ontario and Ontario only. As of late 2023, theScore Bet is not available in any other Canadian province, and like we said before, they exited the U.S. market too. The thing is theScore Ontario has competition from every major sportsbook operator also holding a license in the province. TheScore does have “home field advantage” per se. They’re based in Toronto and have been located there since the late ‘90s.

TheScore Bet is available for download all over Canada, however, bets can only be accepted if inside the state of Ontario. The app uses geotargeting technology to pin user’s exact location. Therefore, it simply won’t accept bets if beyond Ontario’s borders.

The legal limit to bet in Canada is 19 years old — much shorter than 21 in the United States. Bettors will need to verify their age and identity when signing up.

TheScore Bet Features

The main attraction at theScore Bet is obviously the sportsbook. After running through the bookmaker for a week, we can confidently say it can hang with many of the major competitors in Ontario. Hang in two areas — menu depth and price of betting lines. Pretty much all the major sports and leagues are available for betting, including but not limited to:

  • NFL
  • College Football
  • NBA
  • NCAAF
  • NCAAB
  • NHL
  • MLB
  • UFC
  • Boxing
  • MMA
  • Soccer
  • Golf
  • Tennis
  • Motorsports

Furthermore, the betting lines themselves are competitive. These days, you don’t get major variance among bookies when it comes to odds — as most are sourcing from the same third party. Occasionally, you get bookies that “juice” lines though. Safe to say theScore Bet is not one of those.

As we said before, theScore has an entire media brand behind this sportsbook. Not only does that help market the theScore Bet, but it helps bettors track their bets in real time. The sportsbook has media integration with the regular theScore, which means real-time game trackers and stats. It’s the perfect backup in case you can’t follow the game live on TV or streaming.

Furthermore, theScore Bet also houses a casino. It goes overlooked but it doesn’t deserve to. Like the sportsbook, the betting menu is deep — hundreds of slot machines, daily jackpots, table games, and more. It’s a perfect way to mix up the betting action or a place to hang out when no sports are going on.n

TheScore Bet Mobile Betting

Here’s the thing about everything we’ve said about the platform up to this point: theScore is ONLY mobile. There is no desktop version to access on a computer. You either use the mobile app or you don’t use theScore Bet at all. It’s a bit of a risky play but it just goes to show you how modernized theScore Bet really is.

TheScore Bet is available straight from Apple’s App Store or Android’s Google Play Store. In both platforms, the user reviews are off the charts. All it takes is a few swipes of the app to know why — it’s fast, clean interface, and betting from day one just makes sense.

As always, in-play betting is a feature that can make or break app betting. At theScore Bet, it definitely makes it. In our experience, we noticed zero lag on the live betting feature. Odds refreshed at lightning speed and the platform easily took in our live wagers.

TheScore Promotions

Without question, big-money sign-up bonuses are an area where theScore shines. New players of the site are eligible for multiple deals at a given time. These offers change often, but here’s a snippet of what’s available with 2023 winding down:

  • Free $100: new users can earn $100 in free play as soon as they make their first bet. So long as that wager is worth at least $10, theScore Bet promo will hand out $100 for free to spend however the bettor likes.
  • $1000 Match: all right, this is the theScore bet promotions that’ll get attention. Why? Because it’s worth as much as $1000 in free play. Whatever a new player first deposits into the sportsbook is matched dollar for dollar (100 percent) by theScore up until that $1000 figure. That’s a monster deal — essentially a buy one, get one free type offer.

Both these promotions end on December 31 so we’d get to it if we were you. In case you miss the deadline, rest assured, theScore will offer another goodie similar to these.

TheScoreBet Customer Service

Customer service can be an area where many bookmakers “cheap out” on. TheScore does not fit the bill, thankfully. Why? Because this betting site is one of the rare ones that actually has a customer support line with real humans. To get in touch with a person, just give a ring to +1 (855) 550-1238.

Of course, there are alternative contact methods for those who want to avoid in-person interaction. TheScore Bet has a live chat feature that runs around the clock, 24/7/365. Email can also be used to troubleshoot issues with a member of the customer service team. Having all three options really helps TheScore grade high in customer service.

Top Sportsbooks

If you aren’t located in Ontario, it doesn’t mean you don’t have other betting options close to theScore, or possibly even better. Check out the table below.
